Denouncing Bae

“Bae…”

“Babe…”

“Baby.”

“Ma baebae…”

These are often times the names we affectionately call our partners/spouses in our relationships. However, I recently attended a fellowship (Impact Point) that got the wheels turning in my head as to whether it is wise to call each other so.

First of, before I even continue, I have to put across that I am not judging anyone who calls their boyfriend/girlfriend, wife/husband; bae or baby- as a matter of fact I have been a HUGE user of that name. In fact with my king and I, its even worse, hahaha, we have progressed to saying baebaesco or even sometimes, babylina as a joke whenever we are together (seriously).

Anyways, at this fellowship, the man of God put forth that power of words and the power of speaking life into your beloved.

‘Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift.’ (MSG Ephesians 4:29)

Obviously, the word baby is not dirty or foul. Let’s rather centre on the part that says, ‘say only what helps’: If you are expecting that your spouse shall rise and become all that God expects of him, why not say the things that helps?

So here is the catch; do you want to keep calling your girlfriend or boyfriend, ‘baby’ and find them behaving babyish in a situation where you expect them to ‘man up’ or ‘woman up’?

Hahaha…

Then learn to speak what you want into existence!

‘You shall decree a thing and it shall be established.’ (ESV Job 22:28).

It shall be established when you speak words that enlighten:

Like sweetheart (- and he or she will mould into a sweetheart)

Darling

Honey

Chief

King

Lord of the Seven Seas (okay, this is a joke, but you get what I mean)

Let’s speak words that mould one another into the fulness of what God has ordained. Instead of words that could cause them morphing into something we wouldn’t like to see:

This is a short post to get you thinking as I did and its up for debate!

Any thoughts about denouncing the use of the word bae over your spouse?
